I could never actually name my favorite film of all time. But, here’s a list of some of the best. This list gets reshuffled from time to time, and I occasionally insert and delete titles. Enjoy!
1. Sound of Music – Nazis and children, directed by Robert Wise.
2. Casablanca – Bogart at his best, with Ingrid Bergman, directed by Michael Curtiz.
3. Vertigo – Alfred Hitchcock’s masterpiece with James Stewart and Kim Novak.
4. Raiders of the Lost Ark (the franchise) – Spielberg’s winner with Harrison Ford.
5. The Man Who Knew Too Much – Another terrific Hitchcock with James Stewart and Doris Day. The only film Hitchcock made twice. This is the second version.
6. Shindler’s List – Another Spielberg, with Liam Neeson.
7. The Bourne Identity (the franchise) – Matt Damon and director Doug Liman nailed the Ludlum novels.
8. Rear Window – Hitchcock delivers again with James Stewart and Grace Kelly.
9. Dr. Zhivago – A look at the Russian Revolution through the eyes of director David Lean.
10. Giant – West Texas with Rock Hudson, Elizabeth Taylor, and James Dean.
Bonus Film: The Quiet Man – John Wayne in a different role, “There’ll be no patty fingers.”
