Amputee

I joined a new community in 2016. A casual Sunday afternoon drive with my wife, Stephanie, resulted in an automobile accident, a Life Flight helicopter ride to Hermann’s Red Duke Trauma Center, and an amputation of my left leg just below the knee. I am now a proud member of the Amputee Coalition, a family of thousands of Americans who have suffered limb loss. Amputation touches people from every walk of life, and profoundly affects their families and friends. Approximately 200,000 U.S. citizens lose a limb to amputation each year.

In the above photo taken just minutes after the accident, my 18-year old son, Noah, who had been in his own vehicle taking a different route home, looks on as paramedics and firefighters work quickly to try to stop my blood flow. The red truck was my 2014 GMC Sierra, now totaled. Note my driver’s side door on the ground to the right. I had to be cut out by the Jaws of Life. In the background and also to the right above the door, one of the boys from the other truck was be attended by paramedics. Fortunately, the Lord protected both of those boys, and no harm came to them.
